Filmopnames

By Nieuws

Lately we have been shooting films for education and information about the delivery and childbirth. Something very new, fun and also exciting for us! We will keep you posted about the developing of the films.

If you would like to watch our information evening about labour and birth right now, we are happy to send you a recording of the latest online information evening, in Dutch or English. Recommended for everyone from about 30 weeks of pregnancy. Send an email to the assistant if you wish.

In addition, at 34-36 weeks we are happy to schedule extra time during the consultation hour to go through the birth information individually. If you still have questions or a birth plan, this is a good moment to discuss them with each other.

Heartbeat consultation hours

By Nieuws

From week 13 of your pregnancy, you are always welcome at the walk-in ‘heartbeat consultation’ hours. Does the time between appointments feel too long, and would you just like to hear your baby’s heartbeat in between check-ups? You can come by.

We offer walk-in heartbeat consultation hours on Tuesdays (location Amsterdam Buitenveldert) and Thursdays (location Amstelveen Kamillelaan) from 2:45 to 3:15pm. We kindly request that you email the assistant beforehand that you will be coming.

News update measures Corona

By Nieuws

We hope you enjoy your summer!

Hereby we would like to inform you about the latest measures that we had to take in our practice, in the interest of your and our health.

Increase in corona infections in our region

Unfortunately we saw a rapid increase in the number of corona infections in our region in the past week. We advise you to be aware of this in daily life and when following the measures.

Coming together or alone to your appointment

We were pleased that we have recently been able to welcome many partners at the (ultrasound) appointments. We noticed that our earlier advice, to come alone to the standard checks as much as possible, was not noticed by everyone. We request that you come together to an appointment only when there are details for both of you to discuss, for example when discussing a birth plan. Partners are welcome at ultrasound scan appointments (taking into account you are both free of COVID-19 symptoms and your partner keeps 1.5 m distance from the midwife/sonographer).

At our location on the Molenweg it is currently not allowed to come together at all, because of the regulations at that location.

Unfortunately, you are not allowed to bring children or others. They can watch via FaceTime if desired. If it is not possible to arrange a babysitter, a child can come along as long as it can remain seated in a chair or secured into a stroller. It is not allowed for children to walk around in the waiting and consultation room.

We try to keep 1.5 metres distance as much as possible

We try to keep 1.5 metres distance during your appointment. Obviously, this is difficult during the check-up and ultrasound scans, but during conversations this is possible. We applied lines in the consultation rooms. The partner who is watching an ultrasound is also requested to remain behind the line. We kindly request you to respect the 1.5 metres distance.

Return from abroad

When you arrived in the Netherlands after visiting a country with ‘code orange’, you are strongly advised to self-quarantine for 14 days before you are allowed to come to our practice. On the website www.nederlandwereldwijd.nl you can check whether the country where you stayed was given a ‘code orange’ during your stay.
Please contact the assistant by telephone if you have any questions or problems.

Giving birth in the hospital

When giving birth, only partners are welcome in the hospitals Ziekenhuis Amstelland and VU medical center, no other second person. In Ziekenhuis Amstelland only a doula is allowed to support you as second person at the birth.

Maternity period and visits

During the first week after the delivery we will come for one postpartum visit once, if desired. Our postpartum visits are kept to a minimum; we will provide our care by telephone, by FaceTime or by Zoom as much as possible. We will ask you what you prefer.

We advise you not to welcome lots of people during the first maternity weeks. We give this advise for your own safety, and for that of the maternity nurse as well. The maternity nurse will use the advice and protocols of her maternity care organization.

Last but not least…

We kindly request you to wash or disinfect your hands when you arrive at the practice. In the waiting area you will find dispensers with hand sanitizer that you can use. In Buitenveldert you will find a dispenser in the consulting room.

We request you not to come to the practice if you have a fever, flu or any (also very mild) form of a cold, or if you have had contact with someone with COVID-19. If you have an appointment with us, please contact us by phone, even if this situation occurs on that day.

Do you have any questions about the coronavirus? Visit the RIVM website, or call 0800-1351.

We would like to ask you to keep checking our news updates via our website in the near future. When there is relevant information from our practice again, we will inform you here.

Visitors during your maternity period

By Nieuws

Visitors after the birth
It is allowed to invite visiters during your maternity period. Please ask your visitors to keep as much distance as possible (1.5 m) whenever they can. And also ask your visitors to visit when the maternity nurse is not working.

Tips to prevent infection

  • Frequently wash your hands for at least 20 seconds or use a hand sanitiser.
  • Cough and sneeze into your elbow
  • Use paper tissues when blowing your nose
  • Keep your distance from anyone coughing or sneezing
  • Don’t shake hands

Easing measures concerning Corona virus

By Nieuws

As a result of the easing of measures in the country regarding the coronavirus, our professional organization, the KNOV, is allowed to expand midwifery care. We are pleased to inform you on the easing of measures in our practice, as of May 11th:

Partners are welcome

Your partner is allowed again to join at your (ultrasound scan) appointments with us and at ultrasound center SAM, taking into account you are both free of COVID-19 symptoms and your partner is 1.5 m away from the midwife/sonographer. The starting point for every contact moment remains: come alone as much as possible. We recommend to consider coming alone for a standard check-up, if there are no important topics for both of you to discuss.

Unfortunately, you are still not allowed to bring children or others.

Pregnancy check-ups at the practice

Every pregnancy check-up is offered again at the practice. We no longer schedule new consultations by phone or intakes by Zoom, unless this is at your own request.

The consultations by phone that have already been scheduled can remain as is. If you have such an appointment with us, you may now also choose to come to us at the scheduled time. You can ask our assistant by email at which location your appointment is planned.

Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to change the time or location of the appointments when they take place within two weeks. If it is not convenient for you to come to the location which was planned by us, we would like to ask you to keep your consultation appointment by phone.

Ultrasound on request

It is again allowed to perform all kinds of ultrasounds, including ultrasounds on request. An ultrasound on request is an elective ultrasound without medical indication, such as a gender scan at 15 weeks of the pregnancy, or a 3D ultrasound between 24 and 28 weeks. If you are interested, we advise you to schedule an appointment with us in time.

Extra person during your delivery

In addition to your partner, a second person (e.g. a family member, friend, birth photographer or doula) is now welcome again at the birth, at home and in a number of hospitals.

As soon as it is known whether and how Ziekenhuis Amstelland and VU medical centre ease their measures, we will post a news update on our website.

Other measures

We try to keep 1.5 m distance as much as possible and strictly adhere to the hygiene measures.

We kindly request pregnant women and their partners to wash or disinfect their hands when they arrive at the practice. In the waiting area you will find dispensers with hand sanitizer that you can use. In Buitenveldert you will find this dispenser in the consulting room.

When you have a check-up appointment, we still ask you to check in advance whether you are having symptoms of the flu/cold, or whether you may have had risk contact with an infected person. If that’s the case, don’t come to the practice. If you have an appointment with us, we request that you contact the assistant by telephone. In each situation, we will find a solution in the care you need.

We would like to ask you to keep checking our news updates via our website in the near future. When there is relevant information from our practice again, we will inform you there.

We take all measures that are necessary to provide responsible care. We hope to guide you in the safest way during this special period of your life. We appreciate your understanding.

News update midwifery care corona virus

By Nieuws

In response to the latest information from RIVM and the changes to the measures in the country with regard to the coronavirus, our professional organization, the KNOV, is making new recommendations for medically responsible safe care. The current adjustment of the measures ensures that obstetric care meets the needs of our clients better. We hereby inform you about new measures in our practice, as of this week:

We are able to offer everyone an early ultrasound again at eight weeks of pregnancy, regardless of medical indication. We will contact our clients to schedule an appointment.

We will discuss your questions and provide you with any necessary information during your check-up at the practice. This means that the telephone consultation prior to the appointment will be canceled. We try to keep 1.5 meter distance as much as possible and strictly adhere to the hygiene measures. We keep asking pregnant women to come alone to the appointments. So, unfortunately, without a partner, children or others.

We kindly request you to wash or disinfect your hands when you arrive at the practice. In the waiting area you will find dispensers with hand sanitizer that you can use. In Buitenveldert you will find this dispenser in the consulting room.

The current check-up interval is maintained. We only do check-ups at the practice that are medically necessary. At 23 and 33 weeks of pregnancy you will receive an additional appointment for a consultation by phone. We will send you this appointment by email. If the scheduled time does not suit you, we kindly ask you to contact our assistant, so we can change the appointment right away.

When you have a check-up appointment, we still ask you to check in advance whether you are having symptoms of the flu/cold, or whether you may have had risk contact with an infected person. If that’s the case, don’t come to the practice. If you have an appointment with us, we request that you contact the assistant by telephone or email. In each situation, we will find a solution in the care you need.

During the first week after the delivery we will come for a postpartum visit once, if desired. The other visits, as we did in recent times, are done by telephone as much as possible or by video calling with FaceTime or Zoom. We will ask you what you prefer.

We would like to let you know that it is important to contact us with any questions when you are unsure or worried. Do not wait when you have concerns, but call the practice or our emergency number.

We would like to ask you to keep checking our news updates via our website in the near future. When there is relevant information from our practice again, we will inform you here.

Information evening and antenatal classes online

By Nieuws

Earlier we informed you about the measures we had to take to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Centering Pregnancy meetings and information evenings cannot continue in the way as it was before. Many birthing classes from others were canceled as well. We would like to inform you how you still can attend our information evening about labour and delivery online. We will also tell you which online antenatal classes are available and how you can get in touch with care providers with whom we collaborate during pregnancy.

Information evening Labour and delivery

We have chosen to offer the upcoming evening session ‘Labour and delivery’ online with a Zoom meeting. This will take place on Tuesday April 28 from 7:30 to 9:30 pm.

You’ll get lots of information and tips for the upcoming period. This is especially useful if this is your first birth in the Netherlands. You are also very welcome to join if you are expecting a second or next child and want to refresh your knowledge.

We recommend to attend this evening around 30 weeks of pregnancy. The next meeting is scheduled for June 30. If it is too late for you, please join now!

You can register by sending an email to our practice. Then you will receive an invitation with the required Zoom link no later than one day prior to the meeting. If you do not receive this, please check for spam in your mail. Otherwise please send us an email and we will try again.

Online antenatal class

If you want to prepare even better for the birth, then take a birthing class in addition to our information evening:

You can achieve this by following an online antenatal class with ‘BevalWijzer’ (Delivery Guide). This is often fully or partially reimbursed by your additional insurance. The total duration is 4.5 hours, which can be arranged at your own pace: www.bevalwijzer.nl/welcome/?lang=en

You can also register for an online course from ‘Rondom de Geboorte’ (Around the birth), an initiative from the Youth Health Centre in Amsterdam. Rondom de Geboorte provides antenatal classes and postnatal classes for parents of newborns: https://rondomdegeboorte.nl

We have good experience with antenatal coaching by Barbara Corsetto, from Practice for hypnotherapy & pregnancy counseling. She is able to guide pregnant women towards a relaxed delivery via video calling. She teaches you hypnosis exercises and sends you material, both in writing and with audio files: https://bevallen Zonderzorgen.nl/deskundigen/barbara-corsetto/

Preparation Breastfeeding

Our information evening ‘Breastfeeding’ with lactation consultant Sanne Koeman has been canceled. To prepare yourself as well as possible for breastfeeding, you can request a presentation with information and videos from her. You will receive this after you fill in the contact form on her website: www.sannekoemanlactatiekundige.nl/contactlactatiekunde
Sanne is able to give telephone consultations when necessary.

Mensendieck Movement Therapy

When you have pelvic pain during pregnancy, you can contact mensendieck movement therapist Francis Sieverding. She gives treatments in her practice or via a video consultation with Clickdoc: www.oefentherapiemensendieck-amstelveen.nl

News update measures corona

By Nieuws

We would like to give you an update on the measures taken in obstetric care in our region, regarding the coronavirus. The various national organizations, including our professional organization the KNOV, and the hospitals, have made adjustments and have tightened up the policy. We follow these closely. The most important things:

– Several locations of the Atalmedial laboratories are temporarily closed. The laboratory in Amstelland Hospital is closed. You can go for the NIPT or GTT (glucose tolerance test) to the location Jan Tooropstraat 138, in Amsterdam. Which locations are open may differ per day and the information on the Atalmedial website is not up to date. We advise you to check where you can go the day before your visit, by calling 0880037735

– The appointments for necessary medical ultrasounds will continue, including the 20-week screening ultrasound at ultrasound center SAM. Here, as well, only the pregnant woman is welcome.

– We keep asking you not to come to the practice if you have the flu or a cold, or if you may have had contact with an infected person. If you have an appointment with us, we request that you contact the assistant by telephone or email.

– We advise you to consider postponing the 22 weeks whooping cough injection for some time. You can get the vaccination from the 22nd week until the end of your pregnancy. Vaccination a few weeks later does not compromise timely and adequate protection.

– When you are at the consultation hour from 35 weeks onwards, we will give you a printed version of your pregnancy card. This way, every care provider can view your medical data if this is necessary. We ask you to take this card with you to every appointment in the hospital and during the delivery.

– Only your partner is welcome with the delivery at home or in the hospital. The extra person, who was welcome previously, has been canceled. Unfortunately, this also applies to a birth photographer or doula.

– If a medical indication arises during childbirth, we may not always come with you to the hospital. In that case we will guide you to the door of the hospital if desired. We will then hand over the care to the gynecologist by telephone.

– A bath delivery is now only possible when you are healthy, without signs of a cold, illness or fever. If this is the case, this increases the risk of contamination of the care provider and it is therefore not allowed.

– We previously discouraged maternity visits. Now we urge you not to receive a visit during the first maternity weeks. This measure is for your own safety, and for that of the maternity nurse as well. If you do receive visitors, the maternity nurse will leave.

We would like to ask you to keep an eye on our news updates via our website in the near future, under ‘news’.

All measures are aimed at minimizing the risk of contamination for care providers and clients. The caregivers are important in the care of pregnant women and their unborn child. We hope for your understanding.

Corona measures

By Nieuws

Additional measures are being taken throughout the Netherlands to prevent the spread of the Corona virus. In health care, the measures taken are even stricter than those advised to the population. This is to ensure that there is sufficient capacity in the hospitals, but also that the care of staff can be guaranteed at all times. This means that acute care must be guaranteed in any case, which means that regular care will have less priority. Unfortunately, this is no different for birth care. At the moment all hospitals are taking far-reaching measures and we as midwives also work together with each other and with the hospitals. It is very important to limit / slow the spread of the virus as much as possible. We follow the protocol of our professional organization, the KNOV, in the care of pregnant women and in the maternity period. We would like to inform you about the extra measures that we had to take in our practice, in the interest of your and our health.

The following adjustments in our care will take effect immediately and will at least apply until April 11:

Pregnancy check-ups

The new guideline is to maximize the interval between check-ups during pregnancy, keep physical contact as short as possible, and discuss questions and information by phone. If your appointment has to be postponed, we will contact you from practice to reschedule your appointment, adapted to the care you need. Obviously, emergency consultations continue to exist.

We will contact you by phone the day before your appointment to discuss your questions and information. We therefore ask you to prepare your questions. The contact during the check-up appointment itself will only be short and is only intended for external examination and measuring your blood pressure.

When you have a check-up appointment, we ask you to check in advance whether you are feeling the flu/cold, or whether you may have had risk contact with an infected person. If that’s the case, don’t come to the practice! If you have an appointment with us, we request that you contact the assistant by telephone or email. In each situation, we will search for a solution for the care you need.

If you feel well, we ask you to wash your hands before visiting our practice and to come alone to the consultation hour. That means without partner, children or others. Unfortunately, this also applies to your ultrasound appointments. Others, such as your partner or children, can watch via FaceTime if desired. We do not shake hands at the moment.

Ultrasound on request

We are forced to temporarily discontinue our commercial activities, such as the ‘elective ultrasound upon request’ (gender determination, 3D ultrasound). Clients who already have an elective ultrasound appointment will be called personally to find a solution.

Meetings

Our Centering Pregnancy meetings, information evenings and First Aid course are canceled.

Labour and Birth

In collaboration with the regional hospitals, protocols have been developed with precautionary measures for infected persons, who have to or want to give birth in the hospital and their immediate caregivers. We will accurate follow the protocols as well. We request that you follow these instructions upon request to reduce the risk of contamination to other clients/patients, babies and concerned caregivers. Although we try to prevent it as much as possible, it is possible that certain instructions and measures go against the wishes in your birth plan. We will try to think along constructively, but the safety of ourselves and others will always come first.

We advise you to consider a home birth if you have an uncomplicated pregnancy. You can imagine that home birth, for people who are not infected, can be a safer alternative than an outpatient hospital birth. After all, the chance of infection in the hospital is bigger than in your own, non-infected environment. Non-acute care (such as giving birth in hospital without a medical reason) will be given less priority in the hospital in the event of a capacity problem, so, if medically justified, we are happy to provide this care outside the hospitals.

We depend on the measures in each hospital. It is possible that, besides a partner (or another person) is welcome at the delivery. In addition, there is no possible visit to the labour rooms, not even from brothers or sisters.

In case of a home birth, we would like to ask you as well not to allow other family members or friends into the home, apart from your partner or one other person. This applies for the duration of the delivery until our departure.

Maternity

During the maternity period, our postpartum visits are kept to a minimum, we will provide our care by telephone or by FaceTime or Skype as much as possible.

We recommend minimizing your maternity visit and also taking hygiene measures into account. It is advisable to think critically about who you are receiving and whether this could be delayed for some time. The maternity nurse will use the advice and protocols of her maternity care organization.

There is no contraindication for breastfeeding by mothers with a cold, flu or with the coronavirus. The virus has not been detected in breast milk. The baby receives antibodies through breastfeeding, making it more resistant to viruses.

Concerns about your health and the coronavirus

If you have a cold or an increase to 38 degrees Celsius, the general advice is to stay at home, wait and keep away from other people. You don’t have to call the doctor. If your symptoms increase, with a fever above 38 degrees Celsius, with cough or shortness of breath, you should call your GP.

Coronavirus infection has the same course in pregnant women as in women who are not pregnant. As far as is known, there is no increased risk of miscarriage or birth defects due to infection with this virus. The virus is not transferable to your baby in the stomach. Babies can get sick by coming into contact with the virus themselves. Hygiene measures are therefore important.

Do you have any questions about the coronavirus? Visit the RIVM website: https://www.rivm.nl/coronavirus/covid-19, or call 0800-1351.

We take all measures, at work and in private, that are necessary to provide responsible care. We understand that the extra measures cause inconvenience and that our care is not always the most pleasant care nowadays. We hope for your understanding. We hope to guide you in the safest way during this special period of your life.
